Hatred Speech from Racial Shootings to Religious Discrimination.

It is very weird that after all these decades and with all the technology and connections that we have nowadays, we are still repeating the faults of the past.

It is a sorrow to hear every now and then about racial shootings or religious discrimination in different places in the world. As if we never had enough from that in the past. Human history is full of incidents and shames. I personally ask myself, when are we going to learn the lesson and not repeat these mistakes once more?

What happened yesterday in New York from shooting innocent people only because of their skin color is not the first time and will it be the last time? No clear answer as long as the hate speech is there.  Not only the racial discrimination is the problem but religious discrimination as well. When we skim the news every day, we will hear about incidents everywhere targeting Muslims and their free practice of religion either very clear and explicit like in India and China or in a more hidden way like in many countries in the world.

Let’s all remember what happened about more than half a century ago when people listened to the hatred speech and did not react properly toward what happened to the Jews in Europe, especially in Germany. Everyone thought I am not a target as long as I am not Jewish, but that was not right. The regime that started discrimination against one group of people extended its power and led to what happened in WWII.

The problem is that when we don’t care and thought that we are safe, we are not the target of discrimination. We don’t put in mind that the circle of hate will widen and will always target new people. So, maybe I am today safe, but tomorrow will I be?

Hate speech must be over. Reminding our children and ourselves that we are different, and we should respect our differences rather than being afraid of each other. Respect, acceptance, and coexistence should be our motto.
